Remember me? A little update

Hey! Remember me? I've been doing some serious slacking on blogging lately, but the good news is it's mostly because I've been too busy working out and planning my 2016 travel!

Here's a little look at what I've been up too...

The pretty running trail that I haven't gotten to use much lately...


Not much running. With the winter weather and dark mornings here in NJ, I haven't had much motivation to get out there lately. I have hit the treadmill a few times this month, and I'm gonna try to maintain 15 miles a week throughout the winter, or until I find a race to train for, whichever comes first...

Rock Climbing - I absolutely love everything about indoor climbing in the winter. It's a great workout - both physically from climbing and mentally from figuring out the routes, and the people are really friendly. I can't wait to try outdoor climbing for the first time once it gets warm out.

Yoga - I've been going to a local yoga studio twice a week since the summer and I've really noticed a great improvement in my flexibility. It's also an awesome stress reliever, and i'm debating on adding some more Yoga into my life.

P90X3 the Challenge - Pull-up push-up day

P90X3 - I always do the first round and then kinda fall off the wagon. This time Brian is doing it with me, and having a workout buddy always helps keep us accountable. 

Fitness Summary: My cardio has definitely been suffering for a few months, but strength wise I'm the strongest I have ever been thanks to the Workout/Climbing/Yoga combination. I hope when race season rolls around, all the cross training translates into PR-ville!

And... Some more fun stuff to share!

1. I got a fitbit!! I know this is not earth shattering news and many of you already have Fitbit's or Garmin watches, or some other form of exercise band. But, it's really cool to finally see how active I am on a daily basis, and since it's a charge HR, I can also see how many "active minutes" I have with an elevated heart rate. Expect a review post to come shortly.

2. I also got a new GoPro - the Hero 4 session. Since this camera is waterproof without a case, the sound quality has greatly improved and the new light weight design makes it much easier to record non shaky video. So, you can expect 2016 to be the year of some Vlogging! 

3. And, I've saved the best for last, what's happening on the travel front? We're going a cruise! And not just any cruise, one of the newest, largest, ships that currently exists, Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the seas! 

After our Peru Debacle back in August, we wanted to get away but didn't want the hassle of dealing with tour companies, long flights, or trying to fit too much into my 2 weeks vacation allowance per year. So, we booked this cruise since it leaves right out of Bayonne NJ, which basically takes any hassle right out of the mix. It goes to Port Canaveral and the Bahamas, so not the most exotic of locations, but we are looking forward to having a relaxing trip after doing some intense exploring over the past few years.

The good news is I still have 8 vacation days left this year, so we are currently plotting our second trip... California is high on the possibilities list, with a Half Dome hike as the highlight!

That's all for now, but expect to start seeing more regular posts now that I'm back at it.
