Since it’s a new month I figured I would blog about some goals I have, in the hopes that announcing them will help me stick to training!
Run 69 miles
Ok, I know that’s an odd number of miles for a monthly goal. But, that happens to be how the August milage falls for the Hal Higdon Novice 2 half marathon training program. In the past I haven’t really looked at the big picture of my training, and have tried and failed to follow the program exactly with which days to run which miles. This time I have attempted to look ahead and adjust the runs according to my schedule (I have a short trip to Machu Picchu coming up later in the month that I needed to plan around) and i’m hoping modifying the schedule in advance will help me stick to it.
Free standing Headstand/Handstand
|The non yoga way to do a headstand...|
Months ago it was a dream of mine to be able to bust out a handstand atop Machu Picchu. Now it seems like a long shot since the trip is coming up in a few weeks and I haven’t really practiced. But, I took up real live yoga class 2 weeks ago (more on that in my next post) and last week we were learning headstand basics, which I know is still a long way from a handstand. I figure i’ll practice all things inversion for 5-10 minutes a day until trip time and see where that leaves me. At a minimum, I know I can at least manage a crow pose up there!
I feel like this is a goal for me every month and I usually fail on the diet front. Brian and I have been trying hard to live on an 80/20 healthy diet, which is still a struggle for us daily. As far as the actual abs, we plan on doing P90X Ab RipperX every other day, with some ab wheel and planks thrown in, which will more than take care of the workout portion. Why is the healthy eating portion so hard?
These 3 goals will be my main focus. I do have some looser goals on the strength training front, but I
don’t want to overwhelm myself having too many listed goals all at once. So my other workouts will continue as usual and let’s just hope 4 days in Peru doesn’t derail everything!
What are your goals for August?
