Favorite Race Swag

I'm once again linking up to the Friday Five hosted by Cynthia of "You signed up for what" , Courtney of Eat Pray Run DC, and Mar from Mar on the run for another great topic this week, favorite race swag. Be sure to check out their blogs and the other blogs on the link up!

I've gotten some pretty awesome things at races, many of which I still use today. Here are just a few swag items that I love:

1. NYC Half Medal

Medal from the 2014 NYC half

It's not so much that the medal looks all that amazing, it's the fact that every time I look at it, I am reminded that I am capable of doing things I never thought were possible. The NYC half was my one and only half marathon so far. I ran it after only being a runner for 10 months, and prior to that I could barely run for a minute straight.. So, this will likely always be my favorite and most sentimental swag. Unless I run a marathon some day....

2. Run the Vineyards Tumbler

Wine glass swag = winning!

This is awesome because... well... wine!

Not only did the Run the Vineyards 5k give out wine glasses as swag, it came filled with complementary wine at the finish! Can't beat that!

3. Firefly run light up bands

These little ankle bands from the Firefly Run 5k have actually come in handy when running at night... I usually run in the morning so I never thought to buy any type of neon or lighted running gear, but I found myself running at 10 pm one night and was glad I saved these. Yes, I did put on the little blinking lights and probably looked ridiculous. Did I care? nope!

4. Color me rad tank

Color me Rad T-shirt - sunglasses were cute too

The whole color run thing may have been a one and done for me, but I actually really love the women's t-shirt that Color Me Rad gave out. As a small 5'0 woman, I appreciate when shirts are given out as men's and women’s sizes versus unisex, and then sized appropriately. I still wear it around casually to this day.

5. Jets back to football 5k swag

This is another personal favorite because this is the race where I set my current 5k all time PR of 26:08. I had only been running for 4 months when I ran this race, but that was when running was still "new" and I was consistently out there increasing my mileage every week. To this day I haven't been able to beat that PR, but I'm hoping to get it done this fall!

What is your favorite race swag? Have you gotten anything weird? Leave a comment and let me know!

  2. I love those firefly bands - and I do need to do a wine themed race for a wine tumbler - that's awesome.

  3. What a smart giveaway - something runners would find useful.
But yeah, those color run shirts are so soft! They're great daily wear shirts since you can get the women's sizes.

    1. I highly recommend doing a race in a vineyard. It's so pretty, and the wine at the finish line doesn't hurt either!

  6. Those are all some pretty cool swag items. As far as stuff I've gotten with registration, most of my races havent had too many "weird" items, I guess unless you count the virtual kit from the Beat the Blerch. That had cupcake chap stick.

    1. Cupcake chap stick sounds awesome! I'm running the Beat the Blerch NJ event in September, and I can't wait to see what they will be giving out for that

  7. A lot of races have wine or beer at the end, and for some reason I just can't do alcohol after running a race. In some wine countries here in France you can get alcohol during the race.... definitely not my thing !

    1. I enjoy the beer or wine after a 5k, but probably wouldn't be able to do it for anything longer. And alcohol during the race? I'd probably die haha

  8. First half marathon medals are always so special. I received a wine glass for complete a 14k over Valentine's wkend. I thought that was a nice addition.

    1. Wine glasses make great swag for sure. And yes, i'm not sure any swag will mean as much to me as the NYC half marathon medal, although I'm working on adding to that collection!

  9. How awesome to have run the NYC half! The light up bands is a great idea. I used to run with a blinking arm band even though my neighborhood has very little traffic in the wee hours of the morning. Better safe than sorry! You'll definitely have a lot of fun adding to your collection. I will get my first marathon medal this fall. Yikes.

    1. The NYC half was awesome, but it was really really cold that day. Still, I do recommend doing it if you get the chance. Good luck on your first marathon!
