Five Favorite Summer Activities

Happy Friday Everyone!

I'm trying something new this week and participating in my very first Friday Five link up hosted by Cynthia of "You signed up for what" , Courtney of Eat Pray Run DC, and Mar from Mar on the run. Be sure to check out their blogs and the other blogs on the link up!

The summertime is all about enjoying the great outdoors, so here are my 5 favorite things to do, in no particular order:

1. The Pool

Just looking at this picture makes me want to jump in!

The day my husband and I open our pool each year is the day summer officially starts for us. It’s great for relaxing or going for a swim, which is a great cardio workout. I’m not the best swimmer yet but i’m working on it!

2. Grilling and BBQs

pool volleyball
We take pool volleyball very seriously...

I love when it’s finally warm enough to move cooking from the inside grill to outside. We host a few BBQ’s each year as well and it’s great to get the family all in one place. Usually some volleyball shenanigans happen, and my family is super competitive!

3. Obstacle races

I enjoy running in the heat all summer long, but it’s usually time for training and not time for any type of PR. For this reason, I usually schedule some goal races in the fall and then participate in some fun runs and obstacle races to keep me busy. So far this summer I’m signed up for Urban Mudder (Tough Mudder’s mudless 5 mile cousin in NYC) and the Insane inflatable 5k, which is the run where you get to act like a big kid for the day. I’m sure i’ll add more to the list as the summer goes on.

4. The Beach

Took this photo at the beach that's only 5 minutes from my house!

Of course I couldn’t make a list like this and not mention the beach right? I am lucky enough to live just down the road from a few great beaches, and try to make it there on occasion.

5. Winery Hopping

Summer and wine just go together. Well, lets face it, wine and any season go together, but visiting the wineries in the summer when the vineyards are in full bloom is a special kind of awesome. The wineries usually have some pretty unique events as well that active people like myself enjoy. There’s the run the vineyards race series, yoga in the vineyards, and grape stomping to name a few.

What’s your favorite summer activity?

    1. Yes, definitely make your way to a vineyard! It's so relaxing and the tastings are usually only a few $$, so it's a great way to sample some new wines.

  2. Janine, I can't wait to get some pool time; even though I sit outside of the pool and read (and sweat - ha!), there is just something so wonderful about it, right? So great to see you linking up with the Friday Five today; hope you have a great weekend!

  4. I love everything on this list, especially winery hopping (you saw I had beer gardens on mine..I guess outdoor drinking is a common love :)) I can't even imagine how awesome yoga in a vineyard would be. In Pittsburgh we have lots of yoga in breweries and those are always cool! Hope you have a great weekend!
